The following are annual events that are celebrated in Skagway:

Buckwheat Ski Classic
This event is a ski race championship among the people in Skagway, Yukon, and Juneau.  It is held near the White Pass trail, and on the fourth weekend in March.  There are different race levels, e.g. 10km, 25km and the 50km.  There are races for younger people as well that goes on for 5km.

International Mini Folk Festival
This is a musical event where musicians come together and performs.  It is a 2-day event: one day in Skagway and the other in Whitehorse.  It is held on the last weekend of April, when the ducks and swans return to Skagway for the warmer months.

Elks Summer Solstice Party
There’s no better time to hold a party than during the summer.  The event occurs in June, at the Seventh Pasture Ballpark.  Lots of food, beverage, beer and live music.

Independence Day
July is the celebration of Independence and there are lots of family activities organized on the 4th each year, including a parade, pie eating contests, tug of war, and so on.  A softball tournament is also held in the same month, and teams from both Alaska and Canada participate.

Other annual events include the  Skagway Flower and Garden Show on the second weekend of August, it is sponsored by the Skagway Garden Club.  The Klondike Road Relay is held on September and for the Christmas season, the Skagway’s Yuletide Christmas event offers artisans to sell crafts at the Handicraft Bazaar, while the town is beautifully decorated with Christmas lights.
